Privacy Policy for Children

Kids Quest is designed for children and is listed in the Apple App Store Kids Category. We take children's privacy very seriously and comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and all Apple Kids Category requirements.

1. Our Commitment to Children's Privacy

Kids Quest ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting the privacy of children. This Privacy Policy explains our data practices specifically designed to protect children under 13 years of age.

Key Privacy Commitments:
  • ✅ No third-party advertising — We do not display any advertisements
  • ✅ No third-party analytics or tracking — We do not use any third-party SDK
  • ✅ No data sharing with third parties — Your data stays within Apple's ecosystem
  • ✅ No social media integration — No links to external social networks
  • ✅ Parental controls — Parents manage all family data and purchases

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information Provided by Parents

Only parents (or guardians) create family accounts. Parents provide:

  • Family member names: First names or nicknames only (no last names required)
  • Avatar selection: Cartoon avatars from our library or custom photos
  • Task and reward information: Created and managed by parents

2.2 Information from Children

Children using Kids Quest may provide:

  • Task completion photos: Photos proving task completion (stored securely in iCloud)
  • Voice messages: Optional voice comments within the family chat
  • Chat messages: Text messages visible only to family members

Important: We do not collect email addresses, phone numbers, physical addresses, or any other personal contact information from children.

2.3 Information We Do NOT Collect

  • ❌ Phone numbers
  • ❌ Physical addresses or location data
  • ❌ Device identifiers for advertising
  • ❌ Behavioral data for third parties
  • ❌ Any data for advertising purposes

3. How We Use Information

We use information solely to:

  • Provide the Kids Quest family task management service
  • Sync data between family members' devices via Apple iCloud
  • Enable parents to manage tasks, rewards, and family members
  • Allow children to complete tasks and view their rewards

We never use children's information for marketing, advertising, or any commercial purpose.

4. Data Storage and Security

4.1 Apple iCloud (CloudKit)

All family data is stored exclusively in Apple's iCloud infrastructure using CloudKit:

  • Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest
  • Data is stored in Apple's secure data centers
  • We do not operate our own servers or databases
  • We cannot access your raw iCloud data

4.2 Local Device Storage

Some data is cached locally on devices for offline functionality. This data remains on the device and is protected by iOS security features.

5. Data Sharing

We do not share, sell, rent, or disclose children's personal information to any third parties.

Data is shared only:

  • Within your family group: Family members can see shared tasks, rewards, and messages
  • With Apple: Data is stored in iCloud per Apple's privacy policy
  • When legally required: Only if mandated by law enforcement with proper legal process

6. Third-Party Services

Kids Quest does not integrate any third-party services that collect data from children:

  • ❌ No third-party analytics (no Google Analytics, Firebase, etc.)
  • ❌ No advertising networks
  • ❌ No social media SDKs
  • ❌ No third-party crash reporting that identifies users

We only use Apple's native frameworks: CloudKit, StoreKit, and standard iOS APIs.

7. Parental Controls and Rights

7.1 Profile-Based Access Control

Kids Quest uses separate Parent and Child profiles to protect sensitive features:

  • Purchase options are only visible in Parent profiles
  • Children see an "Ask Parents" screen instead of purchase options
  • Parent-only settings are not accessible from Child profiles
  • Each family member logs into their own profile on their device

7.2 Parent Rights Under COPPA

Parents and guardians have the right to:

  • Review: View all data associated with their children in the app
  • Edit: Modify any information about their children
  • Delete: Remove children's profiles and all associated data
  • Refuse: Prevent further collection of children's information
  • Control: Manage all aspects of the family account

7.3 How to Exercise These Rights

Parents can manage their children's data directly within the app:

  • Go to Settings → Family Members → Edit/Delete member
  • Contact us at support@kidsquest.app for assistance

8. Data Retention and Deletion

  • Data is retained only while the family account is active
  • Parents can delete individual family members at any time
  • Deleting a family member removes all their associated data
  • Uninstalling the app and signing out of iCloud removes local data
  • Upon account deletion request, data is removed within 30 days

9. In-App Purchases

Kids Quest offers a one-time purchase to unlock full features:

  • All purchases are processed through Apple's App Store
  • Purchase options are only shown to parent accounts
  • Children see a "Ask Parent" screen instead of purchase options
  • Apple's "Ask to Buy" feature is supported for additional protection

10. Updates to This Policy

If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will:

  • Update the "Last updated" date at the top
  • Notify users through the app
  • Obtain new parental consent if required for any new data collection

12. COPPA Compliance Statement

Kids Quest complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. The parent who creates the family account provides consent for their children's participation in the service. Parents can review, modify, or delete their children's information at any time by contacting us or using in-app controls.

13. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act. However, please note that Kids Quest does not sell any personal information, and we do not share children's data with third parties for commercial purposes.

14. European Privacy Rights (GDPR)

Users in the European Economic Area have rights under GDPR including access, rectification, erasure, and data portability. Contact us to exercise these rights. Note: Kids Quest processes minimal personal data and stores all data in Apple's infrastructure which complies with EU data protection requirements.
